The No. 1-seeded Hawks will be playing without most of their varsity players against the Wildcats and their state-leading scoring leader.

DODGE COUNTY (17-3-1) vs. HERMANTOWN (NO. 1, 19-1), 6 p.m.

Scouting the Wildcats: Brody Lamb, a junior committed to the University of Minnesota, leads the state in goals (42) and points (76). He scored two or more goals in 12 straight games and had five games with three or more goals. Junior Matt Donovan, Lamb’s sidekick, has 25 goals and 25 assists. Senior Charlie Blaisdell, a defenseman with a flair for physical play, relishes shutdown assignments against others’ stars. Dodge County, a co-op of seven Rochester-area schools, is making its first state trip.

Scouting the Hawks: The Hawks will be playing mostly junior varsity players because of COVID-19 exposure during their Section 7 semifinal victory against Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl on March 23 (two Blue Devils players have since tested positive). Sophomore sensation Zam Plante (28 goals, 30 assists), who was injured in a March 8 game against Duluth East and hasn’t played since, will be one of the few Hermantown varsity players allowed to suit up. Backup goalie Cole Thorsvik, a junior, is also expected to play. The Hawks will have 11 players dress.

Worth knowing: Zam Plante is the son of Derek Plante, a Stanley Cup winner, and grandson of legendary former Hermantown coach Bruce Plante.
