Preseason metro area dream team

JUSTIN KLOOS, SR., F, LAKEVILLE SOUTH

Perhaps the state's most dynamic offensive player. Led the Elite League in goals (17) and points (47) this fall. Led the state with 90 regular-season points last season. Committed to the Gophers.

GRANT BESSE, JR., F, BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S

Entering his junior season, Besse has scored 63 career goals in 54 games. Fulfills his role as the Red Knights' finisher by finding the right places on the ice to release his deadly accurate shot.

WILL MERCHANT, SR., F, EAGAN

Led the Wildcats to third place at the Class 2A tournament with 33 goals and 22 assists. One of two active Minnesota high school skaters on the NHL Central Scouting Service's Futures 'B' list.

MICHAEL BRODZINSKI, JR., D, BLAINE

Committed to the Gophers. Offensive instincts and great shot from the point puts the power in Blaine's power play. Solid (5-10, 185 pounds) and mobile. Declined invitation from the National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich.

JORDAN GROSS, JR., D, MAPLE GROVE

Impresses with his puck-handling and a keen hockey sense. Anticipates the action well and jumps into rushes like a fourth forward. Committed to Notre Dame.

NICK MALVIN, SR., G, BLAINE

Carried Bengals to their sixth consecutive Class 2A tournament appearance with a .929 save percentage and 1.99 goals-against average in three section games. Athletic and at his best in big games.
