Q and A with Burnsville forward Mason Wyman, who longs for longer season

Mason Wyman

Senior forward Mason Wyman is the second-leading scorer returning for the Burnsville boys' hockey team. A closer look at Wyman:

The best movie I've seen in the last year? "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Memories" by Dave Guetta; "Homeboy" by Eric Church; "Alright" By Darius Rucker.

How did you get started in hockey? When I was 4 years old, my aunt and uncle had a hockey clinic. I always wanted to try and play, so I started to skate with squirts. From then on, I loved hockey so I started to play.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... excited for the year to finally start. The practice was very intense.

How do you balance school and athletics? I have practice usually at 2:40 p.m., so after practice, I usually sit down and get my homework done. On game days, I try to do homework before the game.

What is your favorite meal before a game? A ham and cheese sandwich with pretzels. Then I bring a banana to eat before the game.

What did you work on in the offseason? My strength, speed and shot.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I wish they would schedule more games for the season. The hockey season is too short.

What is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Detroit Red Wings. I always like watching them play. They are a very talented team who always seem to be competitive in the postseason.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... either still playing hockey or have a job in engineering.
