Top performer candidates

Quentin Cobb-Butler, Woodbury. The sophomore was all over Eastview’s defense on Sept. 10, doing all he could to stop their efforts. Cobb-Butler made 10 tackles, forced three fumbles, recovered a fumble and grabbed an interception as the Royals defeated Eastview 41-27.

Ayden Goetzinger, Caledonia. Following a season-opening loss, Goetzinger and the Warriors locked down their defense in a Sept. 11 victory against St. Charles. The junior recorded 10 tackles and a sack to lead the 24-6 win.

Max Hatfield, Chaska. The senior linebacker led a stingy defense as the Hawks didn’t allow the Chanhassen offense to cross into the end zone on Sept. 10. Hatfield led the Hawks' defense with eight solo tackles and 14 total tackles as the only Chanhassen points came by way of a safety with less than a minute remaining in the game. The Hawks won 6-2.

Alex Hollie, Minneapolis Washburn. The Millers avenged a two-point loss a week ago with a victory over St. Paul Johnson 17-7 on Sept. 10. The junior produced 14 tackles, leading the Millers’ defense.

Zach Juckel, Lakeville South. The senior linebacker led the Cougars’ win on Sept. 10 over crosstown rival Lakeville North. The Cougars shut down the Lakeville North offense with a 12-0 victory as Juckel led the defense with 12 total tackles.

Rory Lane, Park of Cottage Grove. The junior is just one shy of the team lead of 20 total tackles through the Wolfpack’s first two games, thanks to a 16-tackle performance on Sept. 10. Lane led the Wolfpack defense in the team’s 44-34 victory against Eagan.

Nate Litke, Spring Lake Park. The senior linebacker led the Panthers’ defense with 10 tackles against Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Sept. 10. Litke also grabbed one of three Panther interceptions as they won 47-7.

Kendrick Otto, Cannon Falls. The senior doubled his tackles from last week, making 10 total tackles including one for a loss, in the Bombers’ 17-14 defeat of Rochester Lourdes on Sept. 10. Otto also forced a fumble.

Charlie Ryks, Breck. In addition to leading the Mustangs’ offense with two touchdowns as quarterback, Ryks also led the Mustangs' defensive effort. The senior made 12 total tackles, including two for a loss, and grabbed an interception which he returned 82 yards for the team's third touchdown of the game. The Mustangs defeated St. Croix Lutheran 38-8 on Sept. 10.

Cole Wentworth, Fergus Falls. The Otters held Park Rapids to just nine points in their second win of the season on Sept. 10. The senior led the defense with nine tackles, a sack and an interception.
