And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive top performer revealed

See who fans voted as the top performer from Sept. 13-18.

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Football Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Jackson Braun, Blaine. Following up on a 10-tackle performance two weeks ago, Braun made six solo tackles and 17 total tackles to lead the Bengals’ 26-25 victory against Champlin Park last week. He also had one of three Bengal interceptions. It was the senior's second game of the season with double digits in tackles.

Top performer candidates

Brady Blattner, Rocori. The senior linebacker not only leads the Spartans but the state through four games with 52 total tackles. Of those, 17 came during the Spartans’ 22-20 victory against St. Cloud Apollo on Sept. 17.

Owen Diede, Shakopee. The senior linebacker led the Sabers’ 63-20 victory at Farmington on Sept. 17. Diede recorded 10 solo tackles and 12 total tackles. Diede had one sack, three tackles for a loss, and forced a fumble.

Carson Giddings, Buffalo. The Bison held Delano off the score sheet on Sept. 17, earning a 29-0 victory.  Giddings recorded seven total tackles, including one for a loss. The senior also scored a defensive touchdown, grabbing an interception and taking it 60 yards for the Bison’s final score of the game.

Josh Gonleh, Robbinsdale Cooper. The senior linebacker produced 13 total tackles last week, including three for a loss, as the Hawks defeated Robbinsdale Armstrong 49-14 on Sept. 17. 

Ryan Haley, Mankato West.  The Scarlets held Owatonna scoreless on Sept. 17, led by Haley’s efforts on defense. The senior recorded 10 total tackles, including four for a loss, and three sacks. The Scarlets won 42-0.

Cashmere Hamilton-Grunau, Minneapolis North. The sophomore linebacker led the Polars’ defense during a 35-12 victory at North St. Paul with four tackles for a loss, seven total tackles and three sacks. 

Mason South, Maple Grove. The Crimson defense allowed a single Minnetonka touchdown on Sept. 17 as they earned a 35-7 victory. South led the Crimson’s defense, as the senior made eight tackles for a loss, 10 total tackles and five sacks.  

Joey Stolpestad, SMB. The junior linebacker had a team-high 13 tackles, including three for a loss, as the Wolfpack defeated DeLaSalle 43-7 on Sept. 18. 

Romerus Sykora, Brooklyn Center/Parnassus Prep. The senior linebacker led the Centaurs’ Sept. 17 victory as they edged Minneapolis South 15-13. Sykora recorded eight solo tackles and 17  total tackles, including one for a loss.
