And the winner is...MN Football Hub offensive top performer revealed

Top performer winner

Brayden Talso, Spring Lake Park. The junior quarterback went 13-for-17 in the Panthers' 55-7 win at Tartan on Oct. 15, throwing for 203 yards and four touchdowns. Talso got the Panthers off to a 21-point lead by the end of the first quarter, completing three touchdown passes that quarter, including two for 30-plus yards. He added his fourth touchdown pass of the game in the second quarter. 

Top performer candidates

Connor Develice, Andover. The senior quarterback tossed a season-high six touchdowns on Oct. 15, leading the Huskies to their seventh straight win. Develice went 20-for-28, throwing for 241 yards and an average of 8.6 yards per completion. The Huskies defeated Monticello 49-14. 

Elliot Huether, Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Huether guided the Red Knights to their first win of the season in exciting fashion as they defeated Orono 24-22 on Oct. 15 in the final minute of the fourth quarter. After going a perfect 3-for-3 in extra points, Huether was trusted with the game’s outcome as he kicked a 30-yard field goal with 38 seconds left in the game, putting the Red Knights ahead by two points.

Derrick Jameson, Maple Grove. The senior running back recorded four touchdowns in the Crimson’s 38-17 victory against St. Michael-Albertville on Oct. 15. Jameson scored the game’s first touchdown mid-way through the first quarter on a 10-yard run. With the teams tied at 17 points after three quarters, Jameson tallied three fourth-quarter touchdowns, including his furthest for 44 yards. He had 207 rushing yards and 19 carries for nearly 11 yards per carry.

Dylan Rogers, Elk River. The Elks battled Alexandria in a high-scoring game on Oct. 15 as the teams scored a combined total of 113 points, with the Elks winning by one point. The senior running back led the Elks' offense, racking up over 300 all-purpose yards. Rogers first scored on a 42-yard run in the second quarter. His second touchdown was on an 88-yard kickoff return in the third quarter before tallying his final TD on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter. Rogers had 338 yards total as the Elks won 57-56.

Joe Russell, Robbinsdale Cooper. The senior quarterback recorded his fourth 200-yard game of the season, leading the Hawks to a 42-21 victory at Irondale on Oct. 15. Russell went 10-for-18, throwing for 142 yards and four touchdowns. After a teammate scored a 65-yard touchdown 10 seconds into the game, Russell tallied the next three touchdowns. He added his final touchdown pass mid-way through the fourth quarter. Russell added four carries for 58 rushing yards, averaging 14.5 yards per carry.

Noah Smith, Rochester Mayo. The Spartans won their sixth game of the season on Oct. 15 — all of which have seen the Spartans score more than 40 points. They were led by the senior running back's season-high five touchdowns. Smith recorded three touchdowns on the ground, taking 13 carries 129 yards. He added a 32-yard receiving touchdown on his only reception of the game. His final touchdown came by way of a kick return — he had three returns for 149 yards. The Spartans defeated Austin 42-20.

Brayden Talso, Spring Lake Park. The junior quarterback went 13-for-17 in the Panthers' 55-7 win at Tartan on Oct. 15, throwing for 203 yards and four touchdowns. Talso got the Panthers off to a 21-point lead by the end of the first quarter, completing three touchdown passes that quarter, including two for 30-plus yards. He added his fourth touchdown pass of the game in the second quarter. 

Takhi Vaughn, Eden Prairie. The senior running back tallied his third and fourth touchdowns of the season on Oct. 15, on par with his previous two of 60 and 81 yards. Vaughn started the Eagles’ scoring with a 67-yard touchdown run mid-way through the second quarter. He capped off the Eagles' 35-0 victory at Edina with a 93-yard touchdown run. Vaughn took 11 carries for a season-high 223 yards.

Jacob Weckop, Randolph. The Rockets earned their fourth win of the season on Oct. 15, scoring more than 40 points in each of those wins. Weckop led the Rockets’ offense with a standout performance, completing 21 passes for 520 yards, averaging over 14 yards per attempt, and five touchdowns. He added two more touchdowns on the ground on 68 yards, including his first as a 45-yard TD in the first quarter. The Rockets defeated Kenyon-Wanamingo 50-29.

Tanner Zolnosky, East Ridge. The sophomore quarterback led the Raptors to a decisive win behind a season-best game on Oct. 15. Zolnosky went 22-for-30, throwing for 328 and three touchdowns. He threw two touchdown passes in the last five minutes of the second quarter, giving the Raptors a 28-point lead at halftime. He added his third touchdown pass, a 29-yard completion, with one second left in the third quarter. The Raptors defeated Eastview 35-6.
