First Report

Going 0-3-1 over its past four games, Minnetonka snapped a winless spell while also capturing its first Lake Conference win of the season on Saturday as the Skippers defeated Wayzata 4-1 at Pagel Activity Center.

The Skippers (7-5-1, 1-0) jumped all over their conference foes in the first period as Minnetonka outshot the Trojans 15-9 in the opening period.

Despite the early chances, Minnetonka scored just one. It came as the Skippers were short-handed as senior forward Wyatt Chartier scored down a player to make it 1-0 late in the first period.

The second period belonged to Minnetonka sophomore center Gavin Garry. He scored a pair of goals in front of the net in the period. The first came as he fell to the ice as a power play opportunity expired. The second came on a deflection on another Skipper power-play opportunity.

Scoreless through two periods, Wayzata (7-5-1, 2-1) responded early in the third period as Trojan senior John Mattson scored 14 seconds in to make it 3-1.

That was all Wayzata could muster against Skipper senior goaltender Jack McKenzie, who picked up his first win of his varsity career as he stopped 28 shots in the win.

McKenzie’s counterpart, Trojan junior goaltender Will Ingemann, finished the game stopping 25 of 29 shots. His fourth goal allowed came in the third period when Skipper sophomore Hagen Burrows added his fifth goal of the season.
