A frantic third-period goal for Hill-Murray spun the momentum back into the hosts’ favor Friday night at Aldrich Arena.

Barely two minutes into the overtime session, the Pioneers second line of Brendan Bonin, Ben Miller and Anthony Madigan went in with a heavy forecheck, then whipped the puck around the offensive zone to set up Madigan’s game-winner. Hill-Murray, ranked No. 2 in the Feb. 2 Class 2A coaches poll, had done it again.

Led by a veteran presence and 11 seniors, Hill-Murray continues to find ways to fend off defeat. Hill-Murray’s 4-3 overtime win over Edina is the last testament to that. A stretch of 10 wins that dates back to December.

First Report

Anthony Madigan scored a little more than two minutes into overtime to lift Hill-Murray to a 4-3 victory over visiting Edina Friday night at Aldrich Arena, and capped off a charged comeback for a Pioneers team that had been chasing much of the way.

Hill-Murray (16-3-1), ranked No. 2 in the Feb. 2 Class 2A coaches’ poll released, pushed its unbeaten streak to 10 games with another gutsy victory where their power play stepped up and played a pivotal role.

No. 11-2A ranked Edina (12-8) jumped out early when Jimmy Clark scored just three minutes, 56 seconds into the first period. Dylan Godbout would answer for the Pioneers, but Edina outscored them two-to-one in the second period and forced Hill-Murray to play catchup the entirely of the third.

With 28 seconds left, senior defenseman Leo Gruba burried a wrist shot through a screen on the power play, and forced overtime.

Alas with the momentum, Hill-Murray quickly pushed the play into their offensive zone and generated the scoring chance Madigan buried for his 11th goal of the season, and no doubt the most important thus far.
