And the winner is...MN Softball Hub Top Performer revealed

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Softball Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Olivia Tautges, Brainerd. The Warriors’ four-win week cemented an undefeated season as they finished the regular season 20-0. Tautges led the Warriors’ week in the circle and at the plate in three of those wins. Tautges pitched in a 5-0 victory at Centennial on May 16, giving up six hits and striking out 10 batters in the seven-inning shutout. On May 19 she pitched six scoreless innings, recording four strikeouts and giving up three hits in the 10-0 victory against Elk River. Her toughest test came on May 20 as the Warriors defeated Forest Lake 2-1 and she gave up one run on six hits in seven innings, recording 11 strikeouts. At the plate, Tautges went 6-for-11 in the three wins, including three home runs and a double and recording seven RBIs.

Top performer candidates

Rylee Blandin, Northfield. The junior threw a no-hitter in a five-inning contest at Red Wing on May 17. Blandin threw 53 strikes on 73 pitches in the Raiders’ 11-0 victory, walking one batter while striking out 11.

Rachel Ishaug, Orono. The junior pitcher started the Spartans’ six-game week off strong with two wins in the circle, giving up just one run in each. On May 16 against Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Ishaug pitched all eight innings in the extra-inning 2-1 victory. Ishaug allowed one unearned run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters. Two nights later, Ishaug pitched again in the Spartans’ 7-1 victory at St. Louis Park. She struck out 13 batters in the win, giving up one run on one walk and one hit.

Sophie Melsness, Benilde-St. Margaret’s. The senior shortstop led the Red Knights’ offense in their 17-0 rout of Visitation on May 19. Melsness recorded 15 total bases, hitting two home runs, two triples and a single in her 5-for-5 night at the plate. Melsness scored five runs and recorded six RBIs in the win.

Payton Rodberg, Proctor. Rodberg accounted for more than half of the Rails’ runs in their 12-1 defeat of Cloquet on May 17. The senior shortstop went 3-for-3, hitting a double and two home runs,and recording seven RBIs as the Rails won their 16th consecutive game.
