And the winner is...MN Football Hub defensive top performer revealed

See who fans voted as the top performer from Sept. 22-24.

Athletes are considered for the weekly top performer poll only if their stats are entered on the MN Football Hub by 10 a.m. on Sundays. If coaches or members of their staffs need access to enter stats, please email mnhubs@sportngin.com.


Top performer winner

Dane Borene, SMB. The junior recorded an impressive four sacks against Minneapolis North on Sept. 23. He had 11 total tackles, including one for a loss, as the Wolfpack lost 14-7.

Top performer candidates

Kayode Amusan, Woodbury. The senior linebacker scored a key touchdown in the Royals’ 20-7 victory against Burnsville. He grabbed an interception which he returned 36 yards for the second touchdown of the game. He added two tackles and a sack.

Travis Biery, Sauk Rapids-Rice. The Storm remain undefeated this season, with the most recent win a 22-12 victory over Cambridge-Isanti. Biery made six solo tackles and 15 total tackles, including one for a loss. He also recorded a sack and forced a fumble in the win.

Logan Burger, Rochester Mayo. The Spartans extended their undefeated streak to four games this season with a commanding 52-0 victory against Rochester John Marshall. The senior led the Spartans with five solo tackles and 14 total tackles.  

Jacob Dietel, Litchfield. After allowing a first quarter touchdown, the Dragons held St. Cloud Cathedral off the scoreboard the rest of the game. The junior led the Dragons defense with 12 total tackles, including one for a loss, and recovered a fumble in the 28-8 win.  

Isaac Guza, Canby. The senior accounted for nearly a quarter of the Lancers’ 77 total team tackles on Sept. 23, making 19 total tackles and forcing a fumble. The Lancers lost to Yellow Medicine East 28-14.

Jaaron Konkel, Mound Westonka. The junior linebacker made an impact on the score in the White Hawks' 54-8 win against DeLaSalle, putting 12 points on the board while on defense. Twice he recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. He had returns of 8 and 24 yards and also made two tackles in the win.

Tony Kruse, St. Louis Park. The junior grabbed two interceptions — his first two of the season — in the Orioles' victory against Benilde-St. Margaret's on Sept. 24. One of the interceptions he returned 53 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Kruse also added four total tackles.

Rhett Mundt, Deer River. Only leading by three points at half, Mundt led a Warriors defense that held International Falls scoreless in the second half. Mundt finished with 11 solo and 15 total tackles, including one for a loss, as the Warriors went on to defeat International Falls 45-20.

Brett Salmonson, Park of Cottage Grove. The Wolfpack put 50 points up on the board on Sept. 23, holding a majority of the possession against Hopkins. On three occasions when Hopkins did have the ball, Salmonson got it back for the Wolfpack. He snagged three interceptions and made six total tackles in the 50-13 victory.
