Senior defenseman Jack Dingle scores winner in third period against Mankato West

Rochester Mayo senior defenseman Jack Dingle’s shorthanded goal 3 minutes, 23 seconds into the third period proved to be the game winner as the Spartans beat Mankato West 4-2 in a Big 9 Conference matchup on Thursday, Dec. 8, at Graham Arena in Rochester.

The Scarlets (2-2-1) were looking to even the game late, but Rochester Mayo forward Ryan Martin had other plans. Martin beat Mankato West netminder Zach Fox after a nice feed from Adam Alcott to put the Spartans (2-1-0) ahead 4-2 with 43 second remaining.

Each team scored twice during a 3:08 span in the first period. Tyler Resner and Zach Erickson were the Mankato West goal scorers. Steve Serratore and Alcott answered for Rochester Mayo.

After a scoreless second period, Dingle’s unassisted goal put the Spartans in control

“We really need to do a better job on the power play,” Mankato West junior defenseman Billy Bigham said.

The Scarlets went 0-for-8 on the power play against the Spartans and are is 3-for-29 for the season, clicking at only 10.3 percent.

Zach Fox made 26 saves for the Scarlets, while Michael DeBusman had 11 for Rochester Mayo.
