Top performer winner

Teagan Dodge, Sauk Rapids-Rice. Dodge had two big games for the Storm last week as part of close wins. In a 5-3 victory at Fergus Falls on Jan. 24, Dodge contributed a season-high five points. The junior forward tallied two goals and two assists within the first half of the game—an amount that would have been enough for the Storm win. But with the Storm up by one and Fergus Falls attacking with an empty net late, Dodge scored the insurance goal for his third of the game to seal the win. On Jan. 27, Dodge played an integral part in the Storm's win, recording two goals and an assist to lead the offense in the 4-3 win.

Top performer candidates

Tommy Cronin, St. Thomas Academy. The senior forward led the Cadets to a decisive win over Hastings on Jan. 24. Cronin recorded a hat trick—his third of the season—and added a season-high four assists for seven points—also a season best—in the 7-1 win. Cronin led the Cadets’ 5-for-5 power play with one goal and all four of his assists with the man advantage. He also added a shorthanded goal.

On Jan. 27, Dodge played an integral part in the Storm's win, recording two goals and an assist to lead the offense in the 4-3 win.

Tyler Hennen, Kittson County Central. The senior forward was off to a hot start at the beginning of the season with 20 points in his first three games and has continued scoring ever since. Hennen had another outstanding week last week, recording 15 points between two games. On Jan. 24, Hennen netted three goals and added four assists to lead the Bearcats’ 8-1 rout of Crookston. On Jan. 27 he was even more productive on offense, but in that matchup the Bearcats needed everything he could produce. Hennen scored a season-high six goals and added two assists as the Bearcats played to an 8-8 tie against Wadena-Deer Creek. Hennen’s 47 goals and 86 points this season is leading the state and his 39 assists is tied for first.

Wyatt Peterson, Duluth East. After recording no more than two points in any game this season prior to last week, the junior forward exploded for seven points on Jan. 28. Peterson touched the puck before every Greyhound goal in a 7-4 victory at Mounds View. Starting with a Greyhounds goal 5:28 into the first period, Peterson’s steady playmaking had the Greyhounds in the lead from then on.

Max Varner, Buffalo. Wayzata was no match for the junior goaltender on Jan. 28 as Varner recorded his third shutout of the season in the 1-0 win. Peterson faced 44 shots for his second highest total of the season. The game was tied until early in the third period when Buffalo scored to break the scoreless tie, and Varner made sure it was all the Bison would need as he remained solid in net—including through four penalty kills—to back the win and raise his season save percentage to .929.
