Big game Sig came through for Hopkins.

Senior pitcher Signe Dohse hadn’t allowed a run all postseason heading to the sixth inning of the Class 4A, Section 6 championship against Robbinsdale Armstrong on Tuesday. After already blanking the No. 3 seed Falcons 3-0 earlier in the double-elimination playoffs, the future Northwestern Wildcat Dohse had another shutout going deep into the neutral site matchup at Pamela Park in Edina.

Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Robbinsdale Armstrong smacked back-to-back leadoff doubles to cut its deficit to 2-1.

It was no time to panic.

Dohse maintained her steely composure to retire the next three batters in order. A liner right back at her that could’ve tied the game was snared in her leather. Dohse retired the side in order in the seventh inning to complete a seven-hit, seven-strikeout game in a 2-1 win Tuesday for the No. 1 seed that sends the Royals to the state tournament for the third year in a row.

First report

Hopkins is headed to the Class 4A state tournament for the third straight year.

The No. 1 seed Royals earn a trip to Caswell Park thanks to a 2-1 win in the Class 4A, Section 6 championship game over No. 3 seed Robbinsdale Armstrong.

Hopkins got on the board first in this neutral site game at Pamela Park in Edina when pitcher Signe Dohse helped her cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning.

The Royals added another in the fourth on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Violet Dupree-Hebert.

The Falcons scored the first run on Dohse all postseason in the sixth inning. Pitcher Peyton Erickson led off with a double followed by an RBI double by Lauren Jones.

Dohse retired the next three batters and snared a liner back to her for the third out. She sent down batters No. 7-9 in order in the seventh.

Hopkins was undefeated in the tournament and would have played one-loss Robbinsdale Armstrong again the next day at Pamela Park had the Falcons won.
