New date for showdown between Benilde-St. Margaret's and Trojans not set

The scheduled Benilde-St. Margaret's vs. Wayzata game on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Plymouth Ice Center has been postponed.

The decision comes in the wake of a paralyzing spinal cord injury to Red Knights' sophomore Jack Jablonski that occurred on Friday, Dec. 30, when Jablonski was checked from behind into the boards during a junior varsity game, also against the Trojans.

“Given the events of this past week, we came to a decision that it was in the best interest of our student athletes to reschedule Thursday’s game,” Red Knights coach Ken Pauly said. “Our first concern is the emotional well-being of our players and giving them a little more time was in order.”

Benilde-St. Margaret's is ranked No. 6 in Class 2A. The game is a crucial matchup in terms of seeding in Section 6AA, considered one of the most competitive sections in the state.

No makeup date has been announced.
