Will Merchant

Eagan senior forward Will Merchant has played a significant role in helping the Wildcats' boys' hockey team into the top five in the Class 2A rankings by Let's Play Hockey magazine. Merchant had 14 goals and 13 assists in the Wildcats' first 14 games of the season. Here is a closer look at Merchant:

The best movie I've seen in the last year: "Horrible Bosses."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod: "Levels" by Avicii; "Lumiere" by Blue Scholars; "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me: Determined, trustworthy, outgoing.

What is your favorite meal before a game? Jimmy John's.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... a little nervous, but was lucky my cousin Alec was the captain and he helped show me the ropes.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Winning the [Class 2A] Section 3 championship last year and going to the state tournament and taking third place.

What were your goals entering the season? Working on being a leader on my team; winning our conference and section; and getting back to the state tournament.

If you could change one thing about high school hockey, what would it be? I am happy that they are adjusting the rules to reduce checking from behind and boarding penalties.

In 10 years, I hope I ... have a good job or if I am lucky to be still playing the great game of hockey.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Bring your game every day; don't take a shift or game off.
