Former Duluth Marshall standout honored as nation's top college hockey player

University of Minnesota-Duluth senior captain and 2007 Duluth Marshall School graduate, Jack Connolly was named the 2012 Hobey Baker Award winner, emblematic of the top player in college hockey.

The award ceremony, held at the MacDill Air Force base in conjunction with the NCAA Frozen Four, saw Connolly become the 32nd winner of the award and the eighth Minnesota high school graduate to be honored.

In his acceptance speech, Connolly thanked his family, teammates, coaches and the Duluth community.

"I share this with all of you," he said. "It was a spectacular time to be playing hockey in my hometown."

Last season, Connolly helped lead the Bulldogs to their first NCAA championship when he finished third nationally in scoring, tallying 59 points.

Connolly, who led Marshall to back-to-back state Class A runner-up finishes in 2006 and 2007, finished eighth in UMD career scoring with 66 goals and 131 assists for 197 points in 166 games, having never missed a game in four seasons.

The nation's second-leading scoring in 2011-12, the 5-foot-8 and 165-pound Connolly was also named an All-American for the third time in his career.
