Former Edina star one of six former state high school players on U.S. junior list

Steven Fogarty, who helped Edina win the state Class 2A championship as a junior in 2010, is one of six former Minnesota high schoolers among the 46 players invited to USA Hockey’s national junior evaluation camp in August in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Fogarty, a Mr. Hockey finalist in 2011, scored 82 points (33 goals, 49 assists) in 60 games for the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League last season. He has committed to play at Notre Dame.

The other former Minnesota high school players invited to the national camp are defensemen Mike Reilly (Holy Angels), Brady Skjei (Lakeville North) and Andy Welinski (Duluth East) and forwards Travis Boyd (Hopkins) and Mario Lucia (Wayzata).

Reilly and Lucia joined Fogarty in Penticton last season, helping the Vees win the Canada’s national Junior A championship.

Skjei played for U.S. National Under-18 team, Welinski  for the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL and Boyd for the University of Minnesota.

The national team will be coached by Phil Housley, a South St. Paul native who has coached Stillwater each of the past eight seasons.
