Jack Hillen signs deal with Capitals

Forrmer state champion with Holy Angels adds depth to Washington's defensive corps

Jack Hillen, who made three straight state Class 2A tournament appearances with Holy Angels and won a title in 2002, signed a one-year deal worth $650,000 with the Washington Capitals.

Hillen, 26, was an unrestricted free agent who started his career with the New York Islanders before spending last season with the Nashville Predators.

Hillen was a Mr. Hockey finalist in 2004 and played four seasons at Colorado College. He was named the WCHA Defenseman of the Year as a senior, when he was called up by the Islanders for the final two games of the 2007-08 season.
