Edina standout to serve as temporary fill-in for U-18 squad during series of October games

Connor Hurley

Edina standout Connor Hurley, entering his junior season with the Hornets, has joined the U.S. National Team Development Program on a short-term basis this fall.

Hurley, a forward who scored 26 goals and had 32 assists in 30 games last season for the Hornets, will serve as an injury replacement for the Under-18 team in October as it plays a series of games against college teams.

Former Edina defenseman Max Everson and former Wayzata forward Mario Lucia participated with the U.S. U-18 in same fashion two seasons ago.

The U.S. team has games scheduled against Notre Dame, North Dakota, Bemidji State, Cornell, Oswego State, Minnesota and St. Thomas in October.

Hurley is expected to return to the Edina roster in time for the high school season.

"I feel honored to be selected, and I am very excited about this opportunity and getting this experience," said Hurley. "I am sure going up against college players will be a big jump. The players are faster and stronger but this will be a good test for me, and I am looking forward to the challenge."

Hurley, who traveled to Ann Arbor on Monday to join the U.S. team, is tied for second in the Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League in scoring with 16 points in 10 games for league-leading Team Southwest.
