Wednesday December 10 is a day many will remember as St. Paul Academy (2-1-1) stunned nationally ranked Shattuck St. Mary's Midget AAA team (15-7-6) with a heroic third period rally from a 6-2 deficit to earn a hard fought overtime draw.

With a balanced attack, fierce forecheck, and outstanding goaltending by senior net minder Steven Estep (40 saves) the Academy boys showed that they are not afraid to lace up against anyone. Senior captain Mike Falvey, who netted two goals and an assist in the third period to go along with an assist on junior James Trevathan’s (1 goal, 2 assists) power play goal in the first period, led the Spartans. Estep led the way in overtime with 8 saves, including a huge stop on a Shattuck breakaway.  Shattuck St. Mary's were led by seniors Dom Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ), and Charlie Wilson (San Antonio, TX), who each had two points on the night.

The next Academy test will be a rematch against Chisago Lakes this Saturday at 6:00 PM (JV at 4:00PM) in the northern wilderness (12970 292nd St, Lindstrom, MN 55045) as the Spartans seek to avenge their loss in last years Sectional tourney. Shattuck will take on the Ojibwa Eagles of Calumet, MI on Saturday and Sunday (Sunday's game webcast http://www.ssmwebcasting.com/servlet/StoreFront ) before taking a holiday break.
