The streak of winless games is at seven for the St. Michael-Albertville boys’ hockey team.

The Knights played three games in three days at Ralph Engelstad Arena in the annual Thief River Falls Holiday Classic. The Knights fell in last Thursday’s opening game 4-1 to Chanhassen. That was followed by a 5-1 loss to Fargo North on Friday and a 6-3 loss to Irondale on Saturday.

The Knights have allowed 35 goals during its recent seven-game skid (0-6-1). Not all the blame can be shouldered on senior goaltender Matt Borgen. The Knights have been outshot in all but one of the seven games, including 40 shots allowed against Fargo North.

STMA only mustered goals from senior’s Zac Borgen and Nate Fischbach in the opening two losses last weekend. Saturday, STMA outshot the Knights of Irondale 38-21, but a four goal onslaught in the second period by Irondale erased a first-period 1-0 deficit when junior Connor Spetz gave the Knights their only lead of the weekend.

Irondale’s Alex Fredberg made it 5-1 with a power play goal early in the third period. STMA’s Borgen added his second and third goal of the weekend to make it 5-3, but Jack Tuomie sealed it for Irondale with an empty netter giving the Knights a 6-3 win.

STMA will be in action Thursday night at 7 p.m. against St. Cloud Tech.
