Section 6A final: St. Cloud Apollo's Jason Omann scores hat trick in triumph over Little Falls

St. Cloud Apollo’s Jason Omann scored three goals against the usually stout Little Falls defense to led the No. 2-seeded Eagles to a 6-3 victory over the top-seeded Flyers in the Section 6A championship on Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud.

In what was a back-and-forth, physical game, Omann shouldered the offensive load, answering Little Falls’ opening goal with two of his own before adding an empty netter to finish off the defending section champion Flyers.

Apollo’s formidable first line continued to impress, accounting for five of the six Eagles’ goals.

Freshman goaltender Nick Althaus was another St. Cloud Apollo standout,  stopping 29 of 32 shots, including several quality chances late in the game.

Apollo’s Paul Kenney had three assists, and Brandon Bloch, Jared Christen and Brandon Bisset each chipped in with a goal.

The Eagles (18-10-0) scored the first three goals before Taylor Drager opened the scoring for Little Falls 3 minutes into the second period on a beautiful breakaway goal.
 
Little Falls (21-7-0) cut Apollo’s lead to one a couple times with goals by Luke Majerle and Thomas Miller, by the Flyers could never draw even.

Flyers goaltender Michael Stump had 16 saves on Apollo’s 21 shots.

Omann was a force all game long, applying constant pressure in Little Falls offensive zone. He finished with a hat trick and added an assist.

The junior forward played the role of facilitator for the Eagles, racking up three assists and creating many more opportunities.    

3. Nick Althaus, St. Cloud Apollo
The freshman goaltender didn't show his age, amassing 29 saves including many key stops late in the game to help seal the victory for the Eagles.
