Eagan junior Andrew Lindgren always has been a highly regarded goaltender. Yet he has taken his game to another level in the past couple of weeks.

In the Wildcats’ past five boys’ hockey games, Lindgren has yielded only four goals while stopping 139 shots. Eagan is 4-1 during that stretch.

He recorded shutouts against Farmington, Hastings and Rosemount, but his most impressive performance came in a 2-1 upset of Class 2A, No. 6 Edina. The Wildcats’ only loss was 3-1 against Burnsville in which they were outshot 35-16.

Against the Hornets, Lindgren turned aside 39 of the 40 shots directed his way. He made 19 stops in the third period when Edina tried to overcome a 2-0 deficit.

Lindgren’s older brother Charlie is a freshman goalie at St. Cloud State.

Twice as nice

The Gatorade volleyball player of the year award became twice as nice for the McNeil family.

Eagan senior Taylr McNeil won the annual award for her performance this past season, two years after her older sister Kellie was selected for the honor while attending Lakeville North. Taylr led the Wildcats (30-2) to the Class 3A state championship.

The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court.

Taylr will join her sister next fall as a member of the University of South Carolina volleyball team.

Top performances

• Lakeville North senior J.P. Macura followed up his season-opening 44-point performance with a 55-point outing in a wild 104-99 nonconference victory over Farmington. The 6-5 forward also scored 48 points in an 89-84 setback at the hands of Hopkins in the Breakdown Classic.

• Northfield freshman forward Grant Parrish had a pure hat trick, which included his first high school goal, helping the Raiders’ boys’ hockey team snap a three-game losing streak with a come-from-behind 5-4 nonconference victory over New Ulm. The Raiders trailed 2-0 early in the second period when Parrish scored three consecutive goals. He also assisted on the fourth goal.
