Rogers power past Buffalo 5-3 for league lead

Two straight power play goals put Rogers in front and the Royals held on to defeat the Buffalo Bison 5-3 at home Saturday evening and grab the conference lead alone.

Rogers is 4-0 in the Mississippi 8 and Buffalo is 6-1. The Royals are 10-3-1 and Bison 9-5-1 overall.

Gunnar Goodmanson nailed three straight goals for Buffalo, at 8:36 and 13:04 of the first period and 1:22 of the second, to give the Bison a 4-3 lead.

Rogers had a man advantage for goals by Alexander Lormann at 8:09 of the second period and by Nate Weber at 14:55 to push ahead 4-3. Dustin Schoepke gave Rogers a two-goal lead 3:23 into the third.

Spencer Marchand had the first Royal goal plus an assist. Travis Brown made two assists and Matt Hellickson, Blake Timm, and Weber one each.

Rogers was 2-for-4 and Buffalo 0-for-4 on power plays. The Royals permitted only 13 shots with Jackson Nelson making 10 saves. Rogers had 28 shots. Mikey Otten stopped 23 for Buffalo.

Rogers will host Fergus Falls on Thursday.
