Royal boys ousted by Anoka 4-2

The Rogers Royal hockey season ended with a first-round loss to Anoka, 4-2, in the Section 5AA tournament Saturday in Champlin.

Travis Mashuga led the Tornadoes (13-12-1), scoring the first and last goals and assisting on another. Gavin Pott gave Anoka 2-1 lead by scoring with four seconds left in the second period, and Alec Seeger and Mashuga made it 4-1 in the third period. Robbie Goor made 27 saves.

Scoring for Rogers were Matt Hellickson (Alexander Lorman assisting) and Branden Cecil (Ryan Puetz, Mitchell Motter). Jackson Nelson in the nets stopped 23 of 27 shots.

Rogers, which finished 18-7-1, had tied and beaten Anoka in December, 5-5 and 3-2.
