QUARTERFINAL

Totino-Grace (No. 5, 17-10-1) vs. St. Cloud Cathedral (No. 4, 20-7-1), 8 p.m.

Totino gets a rematch

Scouting the Eagles: “No stars, everyone contributes,” coach Mark Loahr has said of his team all season. Leading goal-scorer Kai Barber (19 goals, 30 points), a bowling ball on the football field, is agile and light on his skates. That the Eagles have overcome a 4-6-1 start to the season is a testament to the experience of 10 seniors. Totino-Grace outplayed and outshot St. Cloud Cathedral on the road on Jan. 25 but lost the game 5-4. Stronger in the third period than in the first, the Eagles have outscored opponents 33-21 in the final 17 minutes.

Scouting the Crusaders: Keep an eye on senior center Will Hammer (23 goals, 53 points). He broke the school’s career points record this season — he has 172 — and is one of those players with an inherent knack for scoring. Defenseman Dan Bailey captains the team along with Hammer and is a terrific passer, as evidenced by 31 assists. Since losing four consecutive games during a tough January stretch — losses to East Grand Forks, Warroad, Hermantown and Breck — Cathedral is 11-1-1.

Worth knowing: Loahr became the 12th coach in state history to win 500 games when the Eagles defeated Breck 3-1 on Jan. 21. Loahr has 508 victories in 32 seasons at Totino-Grace.
