This and that about the high school hockey tournament.

Tournament tidbits

• The coaches who vote on such things knew just what they were doing when they seeded the Class 1A hockey section playoffs. In seven of the eight sections, the No. 1 seed (New Prague, Luverne, Totino-Grace, Chisago Lakes, St. Cloud Cathedral, Hermantown and East Grand Forks) won the section. The only case in which a top-seeded team lost was Section 2, when No. 2 Orono ousted No. 1 Breck 2-1 in the final.

• Since the addition of a second class of hockey in 1992, 39 programs have made their first state tournament appearance in either the Tier II or Class 1A brackets, including many now seen as perennially strong, such as Orono (1992), Totino-Grace (1993), Breck (1994), Hermantown (1994), Blake (1995), Benilde-St. Margaret’s (1999) and St. Thomas Academy (1999).

• Adult tickets are $17 for championship and $12 for consolation sessions. Student tickets are $11 for championship, $8 for consolation. All championship-round games will be televised on KSTC-TV (Ch. 45) and streamed live at Prep45.com for a charge of $4.97 per day. The Class 2A quarterfinals and all semifinals and championship game can be heard on 105.7-FM and on 106.1-FM.
