Royal Boys lose opener to River Lakes 4-3

The Rogers Royals lost their hockey opener to River Lakes 4-3 at home Saturday, taking a 2-0 lead before giving up four straight goals.

Mitchell Motter scored for Rogers in the first and second periods, assisted by Ryan Puetz and Dustin Schoepke.

However, River Lakes (a co-op of eight schools based in Cold Spring) stormed back with goals by Matt Prozinski, Grant Thompson, Cole Gertken and Pozinski again.

Jason Roberge got the Royals back within one with 1:45 left in the game.

River Lakes had 19 shots on goal and Rogers 35. Jackson Nelson was in goal for Royals and Nicholas Skluzacek for River Lakes.

Rogers will host Coon Rapids on Tuesday.
