Before the season of the holiday tournaments hits, there’s one more burst of top regular-season games from which to select a Top 10 Games of the Week. Actually, it’s more a Top 10 games of the Day, with a host of good-looking matchups on Dec. 23.

Two games between top-5 programs in Class 2A really get our attention, making it tough to decide between them.

Wayzata, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A coaches poll, hosts No. 4-2A St. Thomas Academy in the best game west of the Mississippi River. On the east side, No. 5-2A Hill-Murray welcomes unbeaten Lakeville North, No. 1-2A.

No. 2-2A Edina is the only top-5 team missing from that slate, with a respite after going undefeated at its home holiday tournament last weekend.

Tough choice? You bet. So we’ll give the nod to a couple of new teams to our Game of the Week and tab the Cadets’ visit to Wayzata in the top spot.
