Twice The Reason To Cheer

When the Como Park boys’ hockey team traveled to the Charles Schultz Arena to face Highland Park on December 10, Gail Neisewander had conflicting allegiances.  She sat on the Scots’ side, cheering for her son Jack, a senior forward on the Highland Team.  However, she also cheered for her son George, a senior forward for the Cougars.  Her twin sons were playing against each other.

“They went to grade school together, but decided they wanted to go to different high schools,” Neisewander said.  “Last year was the first time they’d ever played against each other.”

There was some brotherly trash talking prior to the game and the twins did line up against each other a few times, but neither checked the other during the game.

At the end of the first period, Como Park led 1-0.  It stayed that way until the third period, when the undefeated Cougars erupted for six goals to blow the game open for a 7-0 win.  George did his part with an assist on the fifth goal.

That was the only scheduled meeting between the two former St. Paul City Conference foes.  (Highland is now in the Two Rivers Conference and Como plays in the Tri-Metro.)  Current plans have the twins headed in different directions next year too.  George is leaning toward trade school, while Jack would like to give junior hockey a shot.
