David La Vaque has covered all but one state hockey tournament game since 2009 and has worked as a Star Tribune high school sports reporter since 2004. His favorite tournament experiences include cheering for alma mater St. Paul Johnson in 1991 and staying for most of the Apple Valley/Duluth East marathon semifinal game in 1996. Loren Nelson has covered every state tournament since 2009 as the national media editor for Sport Ngin. He attended many, many other Tourney games as a high schooler from the far northern reaches of Minnesota making the annual pilgrimage south to the old St. Paul Civic Center in the 1980s.

Two-man advantage presents its Day 3 All-Tournament Team (Again, selections limited to those who played at the Xcel Energy Center. Sorry, Peter Tufto):

FORWARDS
Ash Altmann, Duluth East
Had just two shots, but both were on breakaways. The junior forward scored on his second try to clinch the 3-1 win over Edina -- one of the more memorable upset triumphs in recent state tournament history. He also assisted on Luke Dow's first-period goal.

Grant Loven, East Grand Forks
Senior scored three goals to get the automatic placement here. Also was a catalyst with his physical play, allowing the Green Wave to play their self-described "man's game" to bruising perfection.

Nick Poehling, Lakeville North
The senior Mr. Hockey candidate and St. Cloud State recruit, along with linemates and brothers Jack and Ryan, had a relatively quiet night until the third period. That's when Nick had three of his four assists as the Panthers finally put away pesky Eden Prairie by scoring four unanswered goals.

DEFENSEMEN
Jack Sadek, Lakeville North

The senior who has committed to the Gophers had a goal and an assist along with team-highs of five shots and three blocked shots in the Panthers' triumph over Eden Prairie.

Trevor Selk, East Grand Forks
The junior stalwart, making an unexpected return after missing six weeks because of injury, not only played a regular shift but also scored a clutch goal late in the second. He tacked on two hits and two blocked shots.

GOALIE
Ryan Edquist, Lakeville North

Described as the Panthers' "best player by far" in their win over Eden Prairie by coach Trent Eigner, Edquist made 35 saves including key back-to-back stops on Eagles star Michael Graham in the third period.
