As we enter the final two weeks of the 2015 calendar, we single out the top games for the rest of the year as everyone gears up for holiday tournaments and the coming of 2016.
The Schwan Cup at Ridder Arena and the Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine might offer the best collection of talented teams because of its sheer volume, while the Sports Authority Hockey Holiday Classic features a fine list that includes Class 2A’s top-ranked team Benilde-St. Margaret’s and defending 2A state champion Lakeville North.
There are also tournaments in South St. Paul, Duluth, St. Cloud, Thief River Falls, Fergus Falls, Little Falls, Eveleth, Rochester, Silver Bay, Roseau, Warroad, Wadena and Waseca, as locations from all four corners of the State of Hockey prepare to ring in the new year.
As Class 2A continues to be relatively steady with the usual suspects maintaining their top-10 rankings, Class 1A churns and spins as good teams rise and fall. With that in mind, Hermantown's matchup with Delano in the Marshall Hilltopper Holiday Tournament quarterfinals on Dec. 29 seemed a perfect choice for our Top Game of the (next two) Week(s).
