Red Knights outlast Skippers for 2-1 victory.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- In a game which featured few shots and fewer scoring chances, Benilde-St. Margarets' junior varsity came out on top of a defensive stuggle with Minnetonka, downing the Skippers, 2-1.

The visitors would have seemed to prevail in the defensive standoff that was the first period, allowing just three shots on goal.

However, one of those shots came from the stick of Luke Coughlin, who picked up a loose puck to the left of the Minnetonka goal and delivered into the back of the net with just under seven minutes gone in the game.

The Red Knights, after creating little offense in the first period, came out quickly in the second period and Dylan Hoen made it a 2-0 game just one minutes, 49 seconds into the middle frame.

BSM, which allowed just six shots in the first period, held a 13-4 advantage in the second period and would maintain its two-goal lead for nearly 23 minutes.

On their third power play of the game, the Red Knights allowed Dylan Heiam to slip a pass out of his zone and through the BSM defense. Jack Meredith picked the puck up in the neutral and drove into the Red Knight defensive zone, scoring a short-handed goal which cut the lead to one goal with 5:29 to play.

The hosts would then buckle down and held off the Skippers to the rest of the way.

The game saw the Red Knights outshoot Minnetonka, 20-15, with Alex Brigino earning the victory by stopping 14 shots, eight of which came on six Skipper power-play chances.

BSM returns to action, Thursday, when they take on Metro West Conference foe Bloomington Kennedy in a 5 p.m. game at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.
