Benilde-St. Margaret's junior goalie Ryan Bischel has given a verbal commitment to Clarkson University to attend the school and play hockey for the Golden Knights, beginning with the 2019-20 season.
Bischel won a school-record 24 games while leading the Red Knights' through a season which saw them post a school-best record of 25-1-1 while maintaining the state's number one ranking for 10 consecutive weeks.
He also set a school record for minutes played in a season (1319:47) while posting a 2.13 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.
"Clarkson is a great school, academically, which was the biggest part of my decision," Bischel, who maintains a 4.00 grade point average, said. "They told me that they know I'm a good student and that I fit their profile."
He also said he's excited about joining the program.
"The coaches out there are awesome," Bischel said. "They've got great facilities and the team is playing well and should be pretty good when I get there."
Bischel added that this summer will involve a lot of training with former Red Knight goalie Dave Rogalski along with off-ice workouts.
"His work ethic, attitude and perspective are what make him a great goalie," BSM head coach Ken Pauly said. "He has the perspective to know that he has to take his game to another level.
"He's always looking to get better. He realizes he has to elevate his game and continue to improve."
Pauly had plenty of plaudits to lay upon his third-year goalie.
"He's one of the best, if not the best, goalies I've coached, and he's a great character kid a well as being a great goalie."
Bischel will be the first Red Knight to play hockey for the Golden Knights when he joins the program.
He is the second BSM junior to have made a commitment to an NCAA Division I university, joining classmate Connor Mayer, who made his commitment to the University of Connecticut last season.
Ryan Bischel set a school record with 24 wins in 2015-16.
