You won’t find Blake senior Donald Chute listed among his team's top-10 point scorers from last season.

You will, however, find him in the number one star position for the Bears' Nov. 26 game against the University School of Milwaukee (Wis.) Wildcats during the 2010 Bob Nelson Hockey Tournament at The Blake School Ice Arena in Hopkins, Minn.

Chute scored a power play goal – what ended up being the game-winning goal – and added an assist to power Blake past the Wildcats 4-1.

"The boys came out,” Chute said. “We all came out with a lot of jam and a lot of fire in the beginning.

"I think we had a couple of mistakes and a couple problems bearing down like keeping our focus towards the end. We got a little complacent. But overall, I think we got a group of skilled guys this year; we just got to play our game every night, and I think we showed it out there tonight and we'll just keep building."

Blake’s opponent was not just any Wisconsin hockey team, University School is the current defending state champions.

"I think those guys were comparable to any Minnesota team we would play," Chute said. "They had some skilled guys. They had a pretty good [defense] core and their [goaltender] played really well. We had a lot of shots and he made quite a few big saves. I think they can play with some of the top teams here, and hats off to them."

Chute knows that he may not always find his way onto the scoresheet, but he plans on building upon the successes of this game.

"Sometimes I'll get some points, and sometimes it'll go my way, but those are just the bounces," Chute said. "Maybe I was lucky enough to get some points this night, but it's all about the team and I'm just hoping to help us get to our goal, and that's the state championship."

Blake will have a shot to win a different championship as it plays Delano at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the 2010 Bob Nelson Hockey Tournament championship game.

"We're just going to go out and play our game," Chute said. "Make sure that we know what we're doing mentally and we're prepared to come to the rink with good grit, good tenacity.

"We'll get our bounces if we work hard enough."

Blake School's Ford Traff also added a goal and an assist, Bears goaltender Ryan Hayes made 14 saves.

University School of Milwaukee goaltender Ben Meyer made 41 saves on 44 shots in the losing effort.

Penalties set the tone throughout each period. Blake was called for seven penalties (for a total of 14 minutes) and University School of Milwaukee was called for 13 penalties (for a total of 34 minutes).

Neither team scored an even-strength goal. Three of Blake's goals came on the power play, and it also added an empty-net goal.

University School of Milwaukee's lone goal -- scored by Simon Leahy -- came while shorthanded.

Blake advances in the 2010 Bob Nelson Tournament to the Championship game and will play Delano/Rockford 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, at The Blake School Ice Arena.

1. Donald Chute, Blake
The senior forward registered 18 points (5 goals, 13 assists) last year in the 2009-2010 season but he kicked off the 2010-2011 season with a bang. Chute scored the game winning goal on a power play opportunity and assisted on Reed Mandel's power play goal 2:22 later. Solid overall play throughout the game.

2. Ben Meyer, University School of Milwaukee
Meyer may not have been the winning goaltender but he did make 41 saves on 44 shots. The senior goaltender was definitely a bright point for the Wildcats.

3. George Ordway, Blake
Ordway, a senior forward, assisted on the first two goals on the power play and added an empty net goal to seal the victory for Blake. He proved why he is a MN Hockey Hub Super 100 Senior with great play on both ends of the ice.
