Albert Lea's 4-3 victory over Northfield is the 616th of coach Roy Nystrom's career

With a 4-3 victory over Northfield Thursday night, Albert Lea coach Roy Nystrom moved into a tie with legendary Edina coach Willard Ikola as the winningest high school coach in Minnesota history. The victory was the 616th of Nystrom's career, 522 of which have come in his 38 years at Albert Lea.

Nystrom will have a chance to win his 617th game Tuesday when the Tigers play Rochester John Marshall at the Rochester Rec Center.

He still has a long way to go to become to break the national record, however. That is held by Bill Belisle, who coached Mount St. Charles of Woonsocket, Rhode Island to 806 victories in his career.
