Christmas week was quiet for the MWHS boys hockey team with one game at ST. LOUIS PARK Thurs. Dec. 22nd.
The WHITE HAWKS scored right out of the gate when KIRBY HORGAN and JACK BRANSTETTER stole the puck on an ORIOLE breakout and RILEY WILLIAMS skated in all alone on goal deking the SLP goalie on a nice backhand just 22 sec. after the opening faceoff. Most of period MW dominated play with many scoring opportunities through out the period. AT 5.55 the WHITE HAWKS were assessed a 5 minute major for boarding and were able to skate off the penalty successfully.
The 2nd period started out much like the 1st with a MW goal at 1.42 when defenseman JOE GRAPHENTEEN skated the into the SLP zone going around the ORIOLE defender beating the netminder in close for a 2-0 WHITE HAWK lead.   At 5.15 (senior) JACK BRADY passed the puck from behind the SLP goal to DAVID BINGHAM for a back door goal on a high shot over the goalies right shoulder. Just .49 sec. later, KIRBY HORGAN scored on a goal much like GRAPHENTEEN'S earlier in the period. The WHITE HAWKS were able to take advantage of the SLP defenseman for a 4-0 lead at the second intermission.
The games final goal was scored at 9.52 in the 3rd on a rebound in tight by MW center CHARLIE HALES. The ORIOLES were frustrated by the dominating play by the WHITE HAWKS and with  4 ½ minutes left there was a melee in the SLP zone with punches thrown by an ORIOLE player resulting in 3 players from each team sitting in the penalty box. MW goaltender (junior) DAVID ENGEL earned his first varsity shutout with 30 saves on the evening. The shutout was the second in as many games for the WHITE HAWKS with steady play by the MW defenseman over a two game stretch. Final WHITE HAWKS 5, SLP 0.

The WHITE HAWKS open conference play against the LITCHFIELD DRAGONS Tues. Jan. 4   at home and play at HOLY FAMILY Fri. Jan. 7.
