Senior forward is team's leading scorer through nine games

A.J. Reid

Senior forward A.J. Reid is the leading scorer for St. Thomas Academy through nine games. Here is a closer look at Reid:

The best movie I’ve seen in the past year? “Robin Hood.”

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are …? “Gimme Dat” by Ambassador; “Go Hard” by Lecrae; “Give Him Glory” by Trip Lee.

Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Passionate; competitive; talkative.

Favorite pregame meal? I eat pasta the night before Saturday games with the team. But on game day I like to drink a fruit smoothie in the morning and before the game I eat a Jimmy John’s sandwich with fruit.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? When we won the Class 1A state hockey tournament championship my freshman year (2008).

What are your goals for the 2010-11 school year as an athlete? To win another state title in hockey, and make the state baseball tournament for the first time, and yes, win state.

At my first varsity practice, I felt … nervous because I was the youngest guy on the team and everyone else had played together the year before.  Being the youngest I would have to show I was strong enough not to get pushed around and after practice I would have to clean the locker room ... all by myself.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? It is not too hard to balance school and sports. The key is to manage your time wisely. I try to do a little bit of homework before practice starts, so that I do not have as much when I get home and that way I can get the rest I need to perform on the ice the next day.
