Wayzata tops Edina again

WAYZATA 5, EDINA 4 (OT): It was a marquee matchup, minus a marquee name. It still didn't matter for the No. 6 Trojans, who rallied to beat the No. 2 Hornets in overtime in a battle of Class 2A top-10 teams on Thursday night at Braemar Arena in Edina. The Trojans played without their second-leading scorer, Mario Lucia. The junior forward was serving a game disqualification for a fighting penalty in a 4-1 loss to Moorhead on Saturday. Wayzata beat Edina 3-2 earlier this season as Lucia, the son of Gophers coach Don Lucia, scored the game-winning goal in the third period. On this night, it was Paul Voelker who provided the heroics for Wayzata. The senior forward scored 3 minutes, 4 seconds into overtime. Sam Majka scored at the 1:57 mark of the third period for Wayzata, tying it 4-4. Edina scored two of its three goals in the second period on the power play, the last by Lou Nanne to give Edina a 4-3 lead. He also assisted on the first power-play goal of the period. Tyler Klein scored back-to-back goals, the second on a power play, to give Wayzata a 3-0 lead at the 9:45 mark of the first period.

BURNSVILLE 7, EAGAN 6: A furious three-goal rally in the third period by Eagan came up just short as the Class 2A, No. 10 Blaze topped the No. 7 Wildcats in the South Suburban. Jace Childs scored back-to-back goals 62 seconds apart in the second period, and Mason Wyman had a hat trick for Burnsville.

LAKEVILLE NORTH 3, EASTVIEW 1: The Lightning couldn't keep track of Blake Winiecki no matter how many players each team had on the ice. The junior forward scored a goal in each period, including a power play and shorthanded goal, leading the Panthers past Eastview in the South Suburban.

PRIOR LAKE 4, BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 2: The Lakers' power play is running on all cylinders, as Jefferson found out in the South Suburban. Prior Lake scored all four of its goals on the power play, including two by junior Tommy Vidmar.
