Wayzata Trojans goalie Andrew McIntyre made 27 saves and Eden Prairie Eagles goalie Andrew Ford stopped 22 shots as the two teams skated to a 3-3 overtime stalemate. Eagle Center Kyle Rau played a physically impressive game and notched the game tying goal on the power-play at 13:51 of the third period. Rau also had an assist in the contest to lead his team. His newly acquired lineman Luc Gerdes also tallied a goal and an assist in the game.

The game was impressively played five on five and special teams took precedence in the goal scoring category. The Eagles were 2-6 with the man advantage while the Trojans were 2-5 on the power play.

"It was just a classic game," Eden Prairie coach Lee Smith said. "Two really good teams going after it with a lot of intensity. There is a lot of history between the two programs and nobody was really disappointed tonight."

Wazyata was paced offensively by defenseman Marc Richards who notched a pair of assists, both on the power play and Mario Lucia had a goal and an assist. After the Trojans took the 3-2 lead on Lucia's 18th goal of the season at 11:15 of the third period, the Eagles picked up the pace and even enjoyed a five on three power play late in the third period. The Eagles fought off the five on three but couldn't hold Rau Back. Rau, the undisputed Eagle leader, notched the game tying goal on the backend of that man advantage.

"We thought we could get a good look at it and we had some good shots. We missed once," Smith said of the five on three power play. "It was scary when they killed it off (the first of the two penalties) but then we responded and got one on the five on four."

Wayzata head coach Carl Davis was happy with the way his team played and said that he was proud of his team erasing a 2-1 deficit after two periods. His team rallied for a pair of third period goals and grabbed the 3-2 lead. However, Davis and his team would have liked to see a win. "We were a little disappointed that it ended in a tie," Davis said. We just want our guys to understand we have to play a little better in the end and hold onto a lead, especially against a great hockey team like Eden Prairie."

It was McIntyre who held his ground and made some huge saves in the waning moments of the third period and into overtime. When he wasn't on, the posts came to his aid as Rau rang one hard off the cross bar late in the overtime.

The Trojans have a non-conference affair with the South Suburban leading Burnsville Blaze while the Eden Prairie Eagles open the week by hosting the Lakeville South Cougars who are 6-1-2 in their last 9 games.
