The four game losing streak came to an end for the MW boys hockey team with a pair of wins against Wright County Conference foes Hutchinson and Waconia.
Tuesday, Jan. 18 the White Hawks faced off at home with WCC newcomer Hutch.  This is the first season in the conference for the Tigers. Hutchinson opened the scoring at 9.01 of the 1st off a pass from the corner to the front of the net stuffing the puck past the MW netminder on a second rebound. Most of the 1st both teams skated up and down the ice and it looked like it would be a close game. At 12.14 the White Hawks took a 5 min. boarding penalty . Skating shorthanded for a full 5 min. the boys were able to limit the Tigers  chances and escaped the 1st only down by one.
The 2nd period was quiet with a couple of MW power plays until at 9.51 senior Jack Brady (Horgan,Curti) connected off shot from the right side of the net after a slick series of side to side passes that looked like a game of tic tac toe. Four min. later Brady (Griffith,Horgan) would score again on a rebound of a left point shot. With 21 sec. left in the 2nd, Riley Williams got loose on a breakaway only to be thwarted by a glove save . Hutchinson tied the score at 2 with just 7 sec. left in the period on a whacky carom that left MW  goaltender Engel spinning looking for the loose puck.
At the start of the 3rd period White Hawk coach Doug Runke changed tactics with a two man on the puck forecheck that paid off with the game winning goal at 8.52 of the 3rd. Senior Kirby Horgan (Pearson) scored after a Hutchinson defensive zone turnover. Horgan figured in all three MW goals assisting on both of Bradys 2nd period scores.  Final, White Hawks 3, Tigers 2.
Two nights later MW played at Waconia against a young Wildcat team with only two seniors on the roster. Waconia was riding a 7 game losing streak and would prove to be no match for the White Hawks. MW did not get off to a good start despite controlling the play for most of the 1st. Waconia opened the scoring at 15.05 after a scrum in front of MW goalie Andy Seats after 3 rebounds.   Just a minute later with period winding down, Riley Williams won a faceoff in the Waconia Zone and the puck squirted loose in front of the Wildcat goal. David Bingham wasted no time putting the puck in the back of the net and the 1st ended up knotted at one.
MW opened up the 2nd with pretty shorthanded goal at 2.42 when Charlie Curti stole the puck in the Waconia zone, danced around the goaltender and scored on a nice backhanded shot. Junior Riley Williams opened up the lead on a feed from the corner that he swatted in. Williams is the teams leading scorer (11G,3A) to date. The White Hawk's Jack Brady (Hales,Pearson) finished 2nd period scoring at 15.05 giving MW a 4-1 lead going into the 3rd.
Just 1.14 into the 3rd,  Kirby Horgan(Curti) scored MWs second shorthanded goal on the evening on a give and go with Curti. Jack Brandstetter notched a power play goal at 8.28. The final tally of the night came on a Riley Williams(Curti,Bingham) breakaway at 11.40. MW outshot Wac. 43-22 on the night and ended up with a convincing 7-1 win. MW stands at 7-7-2 on the season.

The JV team has been playing well all season with a 9-6-1 record and is the deepest JV team in recent memory with many talented underclassmen. Next for MW, 2 home games. Holy Family Thurs. feb. 3, 7pm and St Cloud Cathedral Sat. Feb. 5, 3pm
