Lakeville North tops Lakeville South for second-straight year

CLASS 2A

• SECTION 1: Lakeville North leading scorer Blake Winiecki scored his second goal of the game 25 seconds into the third overtime to push the Panthers to a 2-1 win over rival Lakeville South. North skated past South for the second consecutive year in the Class 2A, Section 1 final, for the Panthers’ second straight state tournament appearance and third overall. After falling 5-0 to North in last season’s final, South didn’t go down as easily this time around. The Cougars peppered North junior goalie Charlie Lindgren with 52 shots, but he stopped 51 of them to come up with the win. Senior defender Drew Brevig scored the lone goal for South.

• SECTION 5: Five Hermantown players scored goals as the Hawks eased past Rogers 5-0, advancing to state for the second consecutive year and eighth time in school history.
