Goals by Majka, Judd Peterson of Duluth Marshall and Michael Zajac gave the U-18s a 3-0 lead 8:27 into the second period.

Sean Nelson and Joey Ferriss scored for Michigan’s senior all-star team as it rallied to make the score 3-2.

Scott Nelson of Eastview and Zach McCarver of North St. Paul scored in the third period as the U-18s pulled ahead 5-3.

Charlie Lindgren of Lakeville North stopped 21 of 24 shots to earn the victory.

Sean Nelson scored twice to lead Michigan, which got 21 saves from Connor Hellebuyck.

The Minnesota U-18's victory sets up a title game clash that will include several matchups within the matchup of players who were teammates just more than month ago.

Hermantown’s Garrett Skrbich, a senior who has been a standout forward for the Minnesota Seniors, will play against Hawks defenseman Jared Kolquist, a junior. Grand Rapids forward Travis Underwood plays for the U-18s, while Thunderhawks forward Patrick Moore and goaltender Dom DeGuiseppi are on the Minnesota Seniors.

St. Thomas Academy, Minnetonka and White Bear Lake also have players on both teams.

The Minnesota Seniors reached the championship with a 4-1 triumph over Massachusetts on Saturday morning.

Brainerd’s Josh Archibald, Cretin-Derham Hall’s Bob Kinne, Minnetonka’s Thomas Schutt and Moore scored for Minnesota.

DeGuiseppi and Shaughnessy split the goaltending duties and combined to make 10 saves.
