ROGERS -- Coming off an injury suffered early in the season, Bemidji High School boys hockey captain Ryan Pogue seems to be back at full strength, as he turned in two powerplay goals Saturday to help the Jacks to a 4-0 win over Rogers (1-6).

“He’s starting to come into his own,” BHS head coach Eric Monsrud said. “We’ve changed up lines, and so those lines are starting to get acclimated with each other and they’re feeling more comfortable with each other when they play.

The victory is the Jacks’ first in Section 8AA (1-2), and it improves their record to 4-3 overall. All seven games have been shutouts.

“I’m really happy with the way they came out today,” Monsrud said. “We played with a lot of flow today, especially in the offensive zone. We did a good job today supporting the puck.

“We were 0-for in our section, and we talked about wanting to get a mark on the left-hand side of the column in our section, and today we were able to do that.”

Senior winger Joe Leitner scored the game’s eventual game-winning goal at the 10 minute, 25 second mark in the first period, and the Bemidji power play went 3-for-5 in the second and third for three powerplay goals.

“They were looking pretty good,” Monsrud said. “It was all about our puck movement. We moved the puck better on the power play tonight than we have all year, and by doing that, what it did is it created space and it created better scoring opportunities for ourselves.”

Pogue picked up the second goal in the middle period and the fourth goal in the third period, sandwiching a Tate Hammitt tally early in the third.

Senior goalie Matt Fitzgerald claimed his fourth shutout of the year with 18 saves.

Up next on Bemidji’s schedule is a 7:30 p.m. road game Tuesday, Dec. 19, against East Grand Forks.
