Rivals open Metro West Conference play with a draw.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- A duel of goalies played out at the St. Louis Park Rec Center as Benilde-St. Margaret's and St. Louis Park played to a 2-2 tie in the teams' Metro West Conference opener.

The Red Knights outshot the Orioles in each of the first three periods but St. Louis Park had a 9-5 advantage in the eight-minute overtime.

However, Oriole senior Atticus Raasch and BSM freshman Carson Limesand kept the opposing teams at bay.

Both goalies pitched shutouts in the first period but the Red Knights would finally get on the scoreboard, three minutes, 14 seconds into the second period.

Jett Johnson's second goal of the season gave BSM a 2-1 lead.

Matt Kocourek carried the puck into the SLP zone on the left side, made a drop pass to Joe Collins, who gave the puck back.

Kocourek then took the puck behind the Oriole net before leaving a backhand pass for Collins in the slot and the Red Knights' scoring leader buried his seventh goal of the season.

The power-play goal would hold up for nearly 10 minutes before a BSM turnover in its own end would turn into a goal by Sam Baker, who was left alone 10 feet from the BSM goal and he slipped a shot underneath Limesand to tie the game.

BSM struck back just two minutes later, with 1:56 to play in the middle stanza when Nate Clark chipped the puck out of his own zone to Jeff Johnson, who carried the puck up the right side before leaving a drop pass for Charlie Warnert.

Johnson headed to the slot, where Warnert returned his pass and, with his back to the net, Johnson put a backhander through traffic and past Raasch to sent the home team into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead.

The Orioles would answer again, 5:50 into the third period, when Luke Mobley was sent up the left side by a Riley Dvorak pass. Mobley cut towards the BSM goal from the bottom of the left circle and deked around two Red Knight defenders before beating Limesand to tie the score.

In all, BSM held a 36-33 edge in shots on goal, with Limesand stopping 31 shots.

Next up for the Red Knights is the Tradition Hockey for Life Classic, which gets underway, Thursday, at the Dakotah! Ice Center in Prior Lake. BSM opens play with a noon meeting with 15th-ranked Stillwater.
