Formed Red Knight signs PTO with Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Grant Besse ('13), the hero of Benilde-St. Margarets' 2012 state title run, has signed a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO) with the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League, the top minor-league affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Red Knights' all-time leader in goals (163) and points (272), Besse was an assistant captain when he led BSM to the 2012 Class AA state title, scoring all five Red Knights goals in a 5-1 win over Hill-Murray in the championship game.

As a senior captain in 2013, Besse earned Star Tribune All-Metro and Associated Press All-State honors for the second year in a row and became the first student-athlete in school history to be named Mr. Hockey.

Grant Besse leads Norfolk in goals (13) and points (14) through the team's first 39 games.

A fifth-round pick (147th overall) of the Anaheim Ducks in 2013, Besse spent four years at the University of Wisconsin, where he scored 97 points in 138 career games, serving as an assistant captain as a junior and senior, before signing a professional contract with the Norfolk Admirals of the East Coast Hockey League this season.

The 23-year old native of Plymouth, Minn., leads the Admirals in both points (27) and goals (13) in 28 games this season, including eight points (4g, 4a) in his last four games, with one game-winning goal.

Besse will join the Roadrunners ahead of their Friday night contest against Bakersfield.
