ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Bloomington Kennedy scored just 97 seconds into the game but Benilde-St. Margaret's responded with three first-period goals and cruised to a 6-2 victory.
The Eagles recorded the game's first three shots on goal and got on the scoreboard first when Craig Herman lit the lamp 1:37 into the contest.
That lead would last just over six minutes until Ian Bahr won an offensive zone faceoff in the right circle and Michael McNeil's shot from the top of the slot found its way through traffic for his first goal of the season.
Two minutes later, on the first power play of the game, Seamus Foley banged home a Nate Clark rebound and the Red Knights had the lead for good.
Jonathan Vitelli made his first varsity start and recorded 19 saves to earn his first victory.
BSM would head into the first intermission with a two-goal lead when Jonah Mortenson scored his third goal of the season from the left circle.
When the hosts opened the second period by allowing back-to-back power-plays, Kennedy was poised to cut the lead to one goal but Joe Collins broke up a play in his own zone, carried the puck up the right wing and scored his third short-handed goal of the season.
After setting up two of the Red Knights' first three goals, Ian Bahr converted on the power-play at 5:51 of the second period and BSM had a 5-1 lead.
Kennedy wasn't done, however, and, on the Red Knights' next power play, it was the Eagles getting on the scoreboard as Joseph Dosan finished off a 2-on-1 with Zach Workman setting him up.
BSM's final goal came with 17 seconds remaining in the middle stanza as Jordan Roo took a cross-ice pass from James Callahan for his third goal in three games after a four-game absence from the lineup due to injury.
The Red Knights then played shut down in the final period, allowing just two shots on goal to finish with a 40-21 advantage in shots on goal.
Jonathan Vitelli, making his first varsity start, stopped 19 of the 21 shots he faced to earn his first varsity win.
BSM returns to action, Tuesday, when they will be at the Victoria Community Center to face Chanhassen in a 7 p.m. Metro West Conference game, the first of three games in four days for the Red Knights.
