Woodford strikes twice to lead Red Knights to victory.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's dominated much of the junior varsity game with St. Louis Park but it took a three-goal third period to finally put the game away as the Red Knights downed the Orioles, 5-2.

Nik Dokman's fourth goal of the season came just three minutes, 16 seconds into the contest to give BSM an early lead but, despite a 19-3 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period, the Red Knights would manage just one more goal in the opening period when Jonny Woodford scored with 1:25 to play in the frame.

St. Louis Park came out with some more jump in its game in the second period and the game evened out, eventually seeing the Orioles scoring twice to tie the score heading into the final period.

Brady Giertsen set up three of the Red Knights' five goals.

Once again, the Red Knights dominated the period, outshooting their hosts 14-4 but Oriole goalie Neil Walsh didn't make it easy for the guests.

Will Thompson scored the eventual game-winning goal, 4:40 into the final period, but the game went into the final five minutes with BSM clinging to the one goal lead.

Sam Siegel-Horne then scored his second goal of the season with 4:31 to play to give the Red Knights some breathing room and Woodford's second goal of the game sealed the win with 57 seconds remaining.

Caven Slocum, returning to the lineup after missing extensive time due to illness, stopped six of seven shots he faced in the opening 22:53 before giving way to Jack Olson, who stopped eight of nine shots while picking up his ninth win of the season.

BSM closes out its 2017-18 schedule, Saturday, with a 1 p.m. game at Bloomington Jefferson.
