HP Final 54 Day 1 recap

16 Blue - 1 vs. 16 White - 4

White 16's dominated the first game of the CCM High Performance Final 54 weekend.  Wayzata's Ryan Mulrenin would put up his first goal within 2 minutes of puck drop.  The game would remain even keel for the remainder of the half.  Blue's Lleyton Roed (WBL) tied the game at 1 with 16 minutes to go in the second.  White quickly responded, scoring two back to back goals less than a minute later to take back their lead; Jacob Jeannette (Duluth East) and Mulrenin, with his second goal of the game.  Stretching the lead to 3 would be White's Tristan Broz (Blake) with a late goal in the second half.  White would go on to win it, defeating Blue, 4-1.

17 Red - 8 vs. 17 White - 7

What a hockey game!! 17 Red came out strong scoring three back to back goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. Aaron Huglen (Roseau) would put up his first of 2 goals just 35 seconds into the game.  Teammates Mason Nevers (Edina) and Garrett Pinoniemi (Holy Family) followed suit, scoring the next 2 goals and giving Red a 3-0 lead.  White tallied back and owned the remainder of the first half, quickly tying the game at 3.  Forest Lake's Dalton Saltness, in his first of two goals, found the back of the net just a minute after Pinoniemi.  Carsen Richels(Blaine) closed the gap to 1 and was quickly followed by a goal from teammate, Matthew Gleason (CDH) to tie the game at 3.  Red's Mason Nevers, in his second goal of the game, would close out the half with a late goal to give Red the 4-3 lead. 

The second half brought just as much excitement as the teams matched each other with every skate.  In a back and forth matchup, White would tally another 4 goals in the second; Teddy Lagerback (Minnetonka), Mason Wheeler (Rosemount), Charles Schoen (Andover), and Saltness with his second goal of the game. Red would keep pace with 3 additional goals to keep the game tied; Brett Oberle (Hill-Murray) would put up 2, followed by Trevor Kukkonen (Maple Grove) with the game tying goal with just over 3 minutes to play.  Ultimately, it would be Red that would claim the win with a last second goal from Huglen to take the lead.  Red defeated White 8-7.

16 Blue - 2 vs. 16 Red - 1

The third game of the Final 54's weekend proved a great match.  Both teams remained scoreless until Blue's Jonston Meiers (Eagan) knotched one between the pipes halfway through the first, giving Blue a 1-0 lead.  Blaine's Jack Reimann answered back, a short 45 seconds later with a goal to tie the game for Red.  The final game of the half, and of the game, would come with just under 3 minutes to go in the first; Bjorn Kilen(St. Thomas Academy) would put up the final point of the game giving team Blue the 2-1 win over Red.

17 Blue - 5 vs. 17 Red- 5

Tonight's second 17 game sure did not disappoint.  Blue pulled ahead early in the first with a goal from St. Cloud Cathedral's Nate Warner.  Ryan O'Neil (STA) tied the game at 1 halfway through the first and was quickly answered by Eden Prairie's John Mittelstadt 47 seconds later. 

Both teams traded goals back and forth in the second, with Blue tallying an additional 2 goals in the first 4 minutes of play; Warner, with his second of the game, and teammate Cameron Shoberg (Blaine).  The next 4 goals would go to Red; Garrett Pinoniemi (Holy Family), Aaron Huglen (Roseau), and Brett Chorske (Edina) would all score before Huglen, with his second goal, would take Red to the lead for the first time in the game.  With under 3 minutes to play in the second, Nico Vega (STA) would tally the last goal for Blue, leaving the game with a tie finish.

16 Red - 1 vs. 16 White - 4

In the final 16 game of the night, White came out hungry for the win.  Scoring the only two goals of the first period were Jack Smith (St. Cloud Cathedral) and Wayzata's Ryan Mulrenin.  Keeping the momentum going, Moorhead's Michael Overbo scored the first goal of the second in the first four minutes of play, increasing White's lead to 3.  Teammate Owen Ramirez (South St. Paul) would go on to extend that lead to 4 by the middle of the second half.  In the first and only goal for Red, Matt Beaty (Prior Lake) closed out the game with the final goal and closed the gap to 3. White went on to win 4-1 over Red.

17 Blue - 3 vs. 17 White - 4

The game of the night! The final Saturday night game was a come from behind win for 17 White! Blue came out controlling the first half, scoring the only 2 goals; John Mittelstadt (Eden Prairie) and St. Thomas Academy's Nico Vega, respectively.  The second half looked as though we were headed down the same road as Robert Christy (St. Thomas Academy) knotched one in between the pipes a minute and a half into the second, giving Blue the 3-0 lead.  3 minutes later, Buffalo's Jacob Braccini would tally the first goal for White and set the tone for the remainder of the game. Jackson Jutting (Prior Lake) closed the gap to 1 at 13:20 in the second half.  With just under 10 minutes to play, Andover's Charles Schoen found the back of the net, leaving a tie game at 3.  45 seconds later, teammate Seth Karsell (Rochester Lourdes) solidified the win for White with a final score of 4-3.
