16 White - 4 vs. 17 Red - 3

Today’s first 16/17 matchup saw 16 White taking on 17 Red.  Hermantown’s Joseph Pierce kicked off scoring with a goal in the first 4 minutes of the game, putting White on top, 1-0.  It wouldn’t be until midway through the half that Red would tie it up with a goal from Alexandria’sAndrew Revering.

Pierce came out on fire in the second half, scoring his second goal of the game in the first few minutes of play. Billy Rose (White Bear Lake) would tie it up, again, for Red halfway into the second.  16 White’s took the next two goals to extend their lead 4-2; Tristan Broz (Blake) and Wayzata’s Ryan Mulrenin.  Red would bring the game back within 1 in the last 2 minutes with a goal by White Bear Lake’s Blake Meister, but it wouldn’t be enough to claim the win.  White 16 defeated Red 17 by a score of 4-3.

17 White - 8 vs. 16 Blue - 4

What an eventful game this match turned out to be! While 17 White ended up with the win in the end, Blue 16’s matched their pace throughout the game.  Prior Lake’s Jackson Jutting kicked off the goals by tallying his first of two in the first minute of play.  Teammate Jacob Braccini(Buffalo) would follow suit with another goal just minutes later, giving White the 2-0 lead.  Osseo-Maple Grove’s Chris Kernan answered back to Braccini’s goal less than a minute later and kept the gap to 1 for the 16s.  White would close out the first half with an additional two goals;Dalton Saltness (Forest Lake) and Logan Anderson (Duluth East).

Blue came out of the break with a fight to get back in it. They tallied the first two goals of the half and narrowed the lead to 1; Matthew Mesenburg (Shattuck) at 22:42 and Mitchell Wolfe (Andover) at 14:32. Ultimately, it was White that would run away with the game and the win, dominating the last half and scoring three goals in the last ten minutes of the game; Mack Motzko (St. Cloud Cathedral), Jutting with his second of the game, and Duluth East’s Anderson, with his second of the game.  17 White defeated 16 Blue, 8-4.

17 Blue - 4 vs. 16 Red - 3

The final game of the weekend was one that kept you on your toes with a comeback you didn’t quite expect.  17 Blue dominated the first half, putting up 3 of the 4 goals; Litchfield’s Brandt PedersonJames Miller (Minnetonka) and Nico Vega (St. Thomas Academy) all scored to send Blue into the half up 3. The only Red goal of the first went to Forest Lake’s Cole Carpenter.

The second half looked like it was headed towards a sure win for Blue; call it the age difference but although they could match Blue skate for skate, it didn’t appear that Red could come from behind to tie up the two-goal difference.  Midway through the second half, Red did just that; 2 goals within 5 minutes from teammates Charles Erickson (Duluth East) and Will Traeger (Shattuck) brought the game to a tie with just under 10 minutes left to play.  In a last-minute penalty, Red put Blue up on the power play.  STMA’s Luc Laylin cashed in on the advantage and scored the game winning goal with 52 seconds remaining in the game to defeat Red 16s 4-3.  It was a great game and concluded a fantastic tournament weekend for all players and families.
